Jean Shop Jeans

Way back in April, I first wore a pair of Jean Shop jeans.
These are exactly the same jeans 3.5 months later.
I've always had a thing for selvedge denim.
I love that each pair is made in New York and has a birth date.
And I like the idea of creating authenic wear and tear as opposed to
the ready distressing that never seems to "fit" me.
The first time I put on the size 25 Jean Shop jeans,
I thought they'd be returned for certain for being much too tight.
I called them sausage casings for my legs
(For reference, I take either 24 or 25 in J.Crew jeans but I've had some I couldn't get past my
knees and some that were much too baggy. I wear 00 capris or 0 petite full length J.Crew pants.)

I could get them on but I could barely get zipped in.
And I wondered if I'd be permanently debossed
with the markings of a pair of denim jeans.

However, after reading this, I gave them another chance.
And I'm so glad I did because they did stretch to be comfortable.
(I did some extra tugging at the waist band to loosen it.)
As for the length, they are long.
I am 5'2" and have them cuffed thrice.

I think the Jean Shop size 25 fits similar to J.Crew size 24.
The fit is between a toothpick and matchstick,
maybe closer to toothpick.
After a bit of wear, the Jean Shop jeans conform to your body.

J.Crew jeans never seem to fit around the waist.
Almost always I have a significant gap around the waist band
that I've been conditioned to accept.

And I prefer unconditional love.

  2. Great pins! Jeans are a nightmare for me, my waist is so big in comparison to my thighs. I love how these ones are dated.

    1. Oh thanks, Tabitha! I wish for your thighs. The born on date is kind of fun and funny.

    1. Thanks, Julie! I like the dark wash too. It's supposed to be the equivalent of raw denim with a single wash.

  4. Oh I love these, my concern would be what size to get. I guess I would go for their size 32 and hope for the best (I usually wear a 30 in J. Crew, but find fancy jean companies run very small through the thighs, which is where most of my weight is).

    Thanks for the reviews!

    1. Thanks, Dina! These are small all over but though I didn't think it was possible, they do stretch to be a looser, more comfortable fit after just a few wearings. I did a lot of deep knee bends and squats on purpose while wearing them.

I hope they work for you.

  6. Oh wow, those look gorgeous on you! So well-fitted, and they have that "premium" denim look that you can spot up-front; they certainly look high quality! The cuffing looks really chic with the heels too.

    1. Thank you, cat! I don't have much experience with premium jeans but these do feel quite different than other jeans I own. The fabric and construction make me think they'll last for many years. And I think the fit will get even better, I've really only worn them a handful of times.

  7. Wow-wee those jeans look fantastic on you. And I love that stitching on the inside with the bit of orange. I"m like you the J-Crew ones are not such a great fit round the waist, wonder why that is? I love Habitual (they perk up mois bum) and Ag jeans which sort of do the same...

    1. Thanks, Jody! The orange selvedge is distinct to Jean Shop and they use orange thread for much of the sewing too. I haven't ventured much from J.Crew since I'm too lazy to try. Jeans that perk up bums would be good incentive.

  9. Very interesting jean company. I do like the little details, the birth date is a cute touch. You are so teensy, wish I had your frame:). I am obsessing over your top btw.

    1. I forgot to celebrate my jeans' birthday, lol. The top is a cotton knit halter with clear sequins over most of the design. It's from the Crewcuts section but either last year or the year before so it's long gone. :(

    1. Glad you enjoyed it. I got mine delivered by Mr. Brownshorts so the shot didn't come with. If I had one, doubt I could have pulled on the jeans the first time, it took some doing ;)
