Sequin Secrets

If you had to go straight from the airport to an event where
the dress code is described as business casual afternoon cocktail attire,
what would you do/how would you dress?

A quick change of shoes from traveling flats to Valentinas
and pulling something sparkly over my plain traveling tee while in the taxi
has been what I've done on three occasions now.

I didn't take a picture but this was the first time.
Some type of skinny minnies were my traveling pants each time.
The above was in May and below was three weeks ago.
I don't know what business casual afternoon cocktail really means.
But when in doubt, I go with my skinny pants and sequins.

  1. I would have had no idea but your first outfit is just stunning, you are all changing my mind about animal prints as you wear it so much more elegantly than the particular crowd of Brits who who wear it.

    1. Give it a try, Tabitha. I'm certain you'd wear it elegantly, and you'd be in theme with your wallpaper. ;)

  2. Who made up business casual afternoon cocktail! lol

Your plan sounds like a smart & easy change to me. I really like look #2 :)

    1. Isn't that a good one?! I suppose it's more interesting than just straight business casual.

It was easy and effective too. Thanks! =)

  3. I think you look smashing in both! We are having our Thanksgiving dinner today and I have decided, thanks to you, to wear my green minnies, ivory sequin cami and a cardigan!

p.s. you must give those taxi drivers a thrill!

    1. Oh thanks WMM! I'm thrilled to have passed on an idea. You must have had a sparkling good time, then!

LOL! Well, no undressing required with my plan, that's the beauty. But the taxi drivers might have wondered what went on.

  5. I love these looks, the slim pants with the sexy shoes and sequins on top - perfection. I'd probably wear a knit skirt instead of pants, just my preference since I'm usually a skirt girl and I have some really great knit skirts in both silk and wool. Put a silk blouse on top and since I have very few sequins in my closet I would dress it all up with some jewelry and an updo.

    1. Hi xoxo! I love the idea of wearing knit skirts for travel but my legs can get so cold on the airplane. Your outfit sounds so pretty and elegant, I envy you who can do an updo. I've tried all kinds of gadgets, clips and pins and my hair falls if I take two steps.

I have a couple wool knit skirts I can't wait to wear this winter, including a Black Fleece from BB!

  6. Both outfits look great. It seems like a great formula with the slim pants. Perhaps "business casual afternoon cocktail" is a euphemism for "don't show up in jeans and a T-shirt or a ball gown"

    1. I think you're right! The afternoon cocktail part of it gave me license to wear sequins. At least that's how it works in my mind.

  7. I like your solutions to the tricky dress code. Both outfits are darling and can easily be worn year round. You've given me an idea for Thanksgiving in your 2nd look. I'm more of a sequin gal-but will they melt when I pull the turkey out of the oven?

    1. Ha! I once had some faux fur trim on the cuff of my cardigan that didn't fare so well when I pulled a cake out of the oven ;/ but I think sequins would be fine unless you have your oven on broil.

Still, it's probably best to keep your finest away from extreme heat, or at least wear an apron.

  8. No clue either, especially since I don't do cocktails. LOL

    Love your outfits!

    1. Thanks so much, Rose!

I said what?! when I first saw the dress code but I figured business casual with a sparkle might be just the ticket.

  9. Lovely outfit! Would you say the Valentina pumps are comfortable? I've been looking for a good pointy toed shoe but am always worried about sacrificing TOO much comfort for looks:)

    1. Thanks, Sharon! Hmmm, on the Valentina pumps ... they are comfortable for JC shoes, mainly because of the lower heel height. I've tried on several pairs and some are much tighter than others in the same size. The Collection ones are more comfortable, probably because of the leather soles. They are awfully pretty, which is why I own several pairs, even though they are not nearly as comfortable as the Kate Spade shoes I'm wearing in my It's Superfine and Top Dot Top posts.

  10. Those pants look amazing on you with the pointy toe shoes (sorry, don't know the technical name for those shoes...) - stunning. Add that shine and you could run the world!

    1. Hi there!! I think pointy toe shoes is about as technical as it gets. ;) Thanks so much. Talk to my boss, will ya?!

  11. I think you nailed it girl! Love the valentina's and you can never go wrong with sequins in my book. My go to airport look is a long maxi and flats with a cardi and scarf, but that doesn't really transition into cocktail as well as your look did. Love both of your looks:)

    1. Hey, just give me a reason or anything I can make into a reason to wear sequins! Your go to airport look is pretty and comfy. I fear for the worst when I travel (what if I have to reach up, bend down, climb over things), which is probably why I'm always wearing pants. ;)
