Tweed Romance

OK, peeps (IRL, I never use the word that's short for people, is this what happens when you blog?)!
a winsome twosome or an ill-fated pair?
The jacket is a keeper ... what about the trousers?
How else would you style these together?
And how would you wear them separately?
What say you, people? :)

  1. Well I love them separately and I love them together. I would try a different colour blouse from time to time - maybe a navy or pink or even yellow? Your legs look a mile long and wonderful!

    1. Hi WMM. Thanks so much for your nice comments and suggestions! Some different color tops are definitely in order for the navy tweed.

  3. I think it looks a little bit flight attendant-y... but at the same time, the jacket is very flattering. I also think that the pants are slightly too long... they kind of look like floods. I would not wear the two pieces together. But I am glad the jacket is a keeper... it looks great!!!

    1. You're right, J.Crew JD, a bit flight attendant-y, lol. Actually, I didn't wear it this way that day, only tried on for this post ;) There are times when I need a suit for business reasons and tweed travels so well ...

  4. I think ill-fated together and I agree with J CrewJD, the pants are too long. I love the jacket and it has the potential to be darling with many things!

    1. I've tried but never been comfortable with pants more cropped so I've been doing the fashion-don't of a petite wearing capri length as full lengh trousers. Oh well, fashion geek that I am. ;)

  5. I love them both separate and together! I say keepers. Maybe try a different blouse or sweater underneath though. Like a fuschia colored tipi with a chambray shirt under maybe?

    1. Thanks, Buffy Alten!!

biscuitsandnavy - I think both pieces have possibilities, definitely needing more creativity than a white shirt, I will try your ideas!

  6. Definitely not great together. I like the jacket with something soft under it. A cashmere top in a feminine color or with a curved detail evident in the neckline and sleeves. The sharp pointed white color is hard looking with the crew neck of the jacket. The pants I'm not sure can be saved or if you should even try.

    1. You're right, maybe a peter pan color is better? It's still much too hot where I am to be thinking cashmere but a cotton shell or silk blouse might be nice.

  7. I love it together - but I agree with A Well Styled Life, I think a different neckline would look better (I like biscuitsandnavy suggestion of a Tippi). I'm wondering if the issue with the pants is that on the model, they appear to be a little slimmer cut through the legs. Regardless, I think you can rock it.

    1. Thanks, injanuity! I think you're right about trying something different under the jacket. The pant legs may possibly be pinned on the model, this is the smallest size ...

  9. I prefer the jacket over the pants...I don't think it gets any more classic than a tweed jacket!

    1. Yep, it was a yes for me on the jacket and I wasn't quite as sure about the pants.

  10. I love the pants on you - maybe more cropped? but that's easy to do. Totally agree, your legs like a mile long!

    1. Thanks, Jody! To confess, I'll probably never get around to getting it hemmed if I can get away with wearing them as they are. Trouser legs dragging on the ground get first priority with the tailor.

I like both of them, just not so much together. I would keep both and wear them separately with solid colour tops/bottoms: green, burgundy, red, mustard, purple, etc.

    1. I should have probably named this post tweed dweeb! I will likely wear them separately most often and only together when I need to. Yep, trying different colors the next time I wear one of them.

  13. I am petite also but I like cropped pants. Even if you brought them up to just above the ankle I think you will be pleased with the outcome. Do that, add a softer sweater and it will look totally different. It still looks good as it is, though- I think you wear it well.

    1. MJ - thanks and thanks for your comments and suggestions! I've worn the petite length cropped pants and always feel odd, as if wearing floods but maybe I'll give the just above ankle length a try. A softer sweater for sure, if we ever get sweater weather around here!

  14. I really like that you wear long capris, it is very chic. The issue with these is they look too big in the legs and the jacket might be a bit big in the shoulders. The crew models wear everything tight. They don't need to walk.
I would try this look with an untucked button down in pale blue and bracelet cuffs.

    1. Thanks, Anonymous. Can you believe this jacket and the capris are some of the tighter fitting in this size from JC? I think the material is bulky and why I thought the "lightweight tweed" to be off for the description. I studied the pic of the crew model wearing these, and there's no way she could have put her foot through the pant legs the opening is so close around her skinny ankles. Such is the job of the model, hold still while we pin you and smile (oh oops, don't smile).

And thanks for your idea. I need to get better with the accessories for certain.

  15. I love these pieces on you. I think they are very classic! Did you take your regular size in the capri pant?

    1. Hi Dani! I think so too and I kept them both. In theory, I would be wearing petite 0 but I took my regular size 00 that I usually wear in the capri pant because I prefer the longer length. While these look a little bulky (likely because of the fabric), they are some of the closer fitting capri pants in the same size, much tighter than the brown silky dot that are quite roomy.
