Have A Nice Day

There's no place like home.

Unlike others who chronicle glamorous locales,
I'm documenting the airports I've experienced over the past month
by code: LAW, DFW, HSV, IAH, CLT, COS, DEN (ha I'm a jetsetter).
Did you know the Denver International Airport has
tornado shelters via many of its restrooms?
And while one of my destinations was forecasted to be in the mid to high 80s, I was glad to have packed my trusty wool thermal top because
it dropped to the 40s daytime during my stay.
Take this, Tabitha, xoxo, WFF and the rest of you
who traverse exotic and scenic places.
I also never travel without one of these dust bags for shoes.
It's perfect for a rolled/folded lightweight puffer vest in my carry-on.
With thermals under T-shirts, scarf and trench (not shown),
I did just fine withstanding the unexpected cold and wind,
not even needing the puffer.
Don't believe the reviews, trust the steady traffic by Harlon's BBQ at the George Bush Intercontinental/Houston Airport.
I've had the chopped beef sandwich twice, it's delish.
One more travel tip :) ... instead of another heavy meal at
a possible tourist trap restaurant ...
I asked my hotel to do a fresh vegetable sauté for my dinner.
That too was delish.

I'm looking forward to catching up with y'all a bit.
What's the outlook for you this week?

  1. Oh the 80s! This week we are only scheduled for the low 70s! At least the sun is out again after days of driving rain!

I do not travel exotically much myself, and when I got places, I definitely stay on the cheap, so I can totally relate to your exotic locales, T.R. Glad you are home safe and sound!

    1. Will have to say you can't beat our weather, it's not even as warm as it might sound since the magic is that wind from the west at 9 mph it's perfect for gentle cooling.

These trips were all for work, with the exception of CLT to see my dad!

  2. Look at the chance of rain, lots of big fat zeros, that's like look at my dream summer holiday, if we had decent weather we wouldn't need to scurry abroad en masse twice a year for sanity.

  3. PS. fresh vegetable sautes are delish indeed.

    1. No rain for us until probably November.

Love fresh vegetables, that was one of the best dinners.

  4. I want that veg sauté! Weather here is chilly but sunny: 20 degrees C by day, dropping to a freezing 10 overnight.
Sydney winters are a bit rubbish, really, but we do like to pretend they're cold!

    1. If I'm calculating correctly, it's 68F by day and 50F low? That is not winter!

And I thought we were soft in SoCal! ;)

  5. Love your travelogue! You are like the travel tornado! You are having beautiful weather, I am envious of that.

I just returned from Boston and it was lovely until the weekend when it poured but I had a fabulous time with friends that I haven't seen for a while. Sunday I am off to Houston and pretty excited. I will see my cousin who is a resident at Texas Medical Center and she has promised to show me some fun. I will watch for Harlon's BBQ at the airport but I suppose it depends on the terminal as I'll be flying directly from Calgary so maybe not the same as domestic gates, sometimes they stick Canadian flights off in a corner somewhere.

I read Condoleeza Rice's memoirs of her time in Washington and she would often order cooked vegetables as her meal when traveling. It was the safest option and healthy too. I should try that once in a while.

    1. I hope you have a great time in Houston, your cousin may have BBQ in mind around town. If you do try Harlon's, do let me know how it stacks up against the good BBQ you know from the South.

That was a whirlwind of a travel month. Me and Condi, yep we have the best advice for traveling, lol. But do give the occasional vegetable dinner a try, I find I don't get as jetlagged if I eat lightly.

  6. You have traveling down to a science!! And for some, your locations would seem exotic. I love and use those cloth shoe bags too.

    1. I love the shoe bags, you know I use them as backdrops when I take pictures of shoes for this blog, don't you? ;)

You are right ... everything is relative.

  7. Your veggie dinner looks amazingly fresh and delicious! What a great idea. Rain and low 70s for us all week, YUCK. I am tired of my pant hems getting soaked, yet it's so dreary that I don't feel like wearing a dress or skirt. What to do!

    1. I hope the rain is subsiding for you. Would cute rain boots help?

  8. I am jealous of those temperatures.

Each time I landed in Denver we had turbulence. Not fun.

    1. It seems I feel turbulence everytime I fly over mountains, maybe somebody with knowledge about aerodynamics can explain. I agree, not fun.

I think our weather is close to perfection most of the time.

  9. Delta Airlines has started serving salad as a meal option on their overseas flights. Stomach saver! A salad is so much better than whatever carb-loaded offering they usually have and it doesn't sit in my gut while I try to think of ways to whittle down 10 hours in a tiny seat in a slightly larger metal tube.

    1. There are times when I cannot fathom the thought of salty cheesy meaty refined flour things. The plate of mixed vegetables was most satisfying and yummy too.

  10. That endless straight line of a road looks like the road trip we did to the Grand Canyon dotted with scenic trailor parks. It doesn't matter how hot the destination I always have to have warm things. Its summer here in Ca but Im still sitting at my computer in sweater and uGG boots

    1. Ha, where I was I drove for miles and miles and did not see anything but what you see in the endless road pic.

I like/have to be warm too. If the destination is hot, chances are good they keep the temps indoors like a walk-in refrigerator. I wear uggs and puffer vests pretty much all year round.

  11. A drop to the 40s? Jeez. Of course you were well prepared. Only home half the month, one has to have to be a pro packer like yourself.

    1. A thermal top is small and light and easy to tuck into a suitcase, I never travel without it. ;)

  12. Wow, you really are prepared! That’s the attitude I really want when travelling especially if you have kids with you. Only that, more stuff should be readied aside from clothes and food. Anyway, thanks a lot for the thoughtful and yummy tips! That burger is oozing with delight! I can’t wait to dig in!

    1. Being prepared and rolling with the punches will make every trip better. Guess that can be said about life. I can't imagine the complications if traveling with kids!
