Buy the Book

As a child, I was an insatiable reader.
Before I was 10, I had my own set of hard-bound classics and my face was often buried in one. I could scarcely put it down at the dinner table.

This continued in my teens and twenties. On the weekends, it was not unusual for me to read 10 more pages, another chapter and since it's 4:17 with only 23 pages left so why not just finish the book before 5 a.m.

In my thirties, my weekly treat was a pot of fresh coffee with heavy
cream on hand and being left alone to savor the Sunday Los Angeles Times.
Saving the Parade magazine for last of course.

I had a giant -- it must have been a good 3" thick and 15" x 17" --
dictionary purchased for $5 from a garage sale.
It sat on my living room floor and I'd flip to random pages
fascinated by whatever entries were found.

That's why I had to have (and did you spot it in the bookshelf above?) ...
Dani and Gigi and WMM already know it's not a book.
Unlike the nearly useless Travel Magazine Clutch,
the Wordsmith Dictionary Clutch is a real working clutch.
It's a decent size, measuring approx. 9.2" x 6.4" x 1.8". Instead of tyvek or laminated fabric,
it is well constructed with rich looking thick leather.
The details are astonishingly realistic.
(You can click on the photos for a closer look.)
Look at the beautiful book spine
and foil stamped leather.
You can just about imagine
turning the book cover.
Even the metal frame looks like the
gold leaf gilded edges of a fine quality book.

I haven't carried it yet but I like this combination:
The hat and the dictionary clutch remind me of Tabitha's icon.
And the backdrop is a peek of the KS metallic gold faux fur jacket
that is my consolation for not finding the KS faux fur pullover.

I know. Metallic gold faux fur is a scary thought.

  1. I love it! It's such a beauty, her other book clutches are too plasticy looking for me, this looks so rich and it seems really usable for day time too.
Dying to see the gold metallic fur!

    1. You will look like your icon, carrying a book. ;) It is practically practical, there are 8 slots for cards and a zippered compartment. Many times more room than the magazine clutch, but I know that's a low standard to set.

It might be weeks before you see the gold metallic fur, it was 92F today!

  2. Tiffany Rose! I am sure we are somehow related! I reviewed mine today, too! I love the dictionary! I thought long and hard about it!

And I love the thought of metallic gold fur!

    1. We are of the same mind! I also took many pictures of the packaging, including the sticker and pink card.

I also thought long and hard whether it's one of the books or the dictionary. At the end, the leather and more room won me over. Also the love of words.

The metallic gold fur is a little mangy looking but somewhat endearing too.

  3. BOOK 'EM...Oh no (yes), Tiffany Rose, you may have done it. I withstood my own bookishness, DBP's pre-Paris obsession and WMM's holiday shopping. But now I read all about Modern English looking so discreet and leather-y, my clicky fingers are kicking into overdrive. Santa? Say you'll be mine.

    1. Hi GetFresh. Oh yes, would you believe I'd considered Book 'em as a post title? I hope Santa is good to you, have you been good and not naughty? You will be asked why you're carrying around such a nice dictionary, discreet indeed.

  4. These clutches make me laugh, they are such fun. It looks well-made and I love how you've paired it up with the gold and animal print. Kind of a sexy librarian vibe going on. Or maybe that's the inner voice of my husband talking. LOL

    1. They are fun. When I used my magazine clutch, it was a hit and people said they wondered why I was carrying a magazine. I hadn't thought the sexy librarian, but your husband's inner voice? Too funny!

  5. I think metallic gold fur is definitely not scary for this crowd! ;)

Oh my gosh I love this clutch, it's so perfect and also perfect for you.
I think one of these clutches would be just the thing for going out to dinner, you could just place your book on the table. Brilliant really.
Thanks for sharing it with us.

    1. It scared me a little but that's why we are our support group. ;)

I love the clutch and I know you had considered it too. It might be just the thing if one were to dine alone, will just look like you brought reading material.

    2. It's definitely a keeper, but I have yet to take it for a spin. I have to plan these things out on a baby-free moment out ;).

    3. Mini G must be getting so rambunctious. True, a clutch is not great for when your little one is tumbling around. ;)

    1. I have to wait until it gets cool enough, we're still having summer! The gold fur makes me think of a matted stuffed animal that has been spray painted. But it's soft. It's a little crazy but has that ever stopped me?

  10. I do like the look of that and would really suit you!. I was a total bookworm as a kid (not really a girly swat though, I never did my homework) and now I've divorced myself from Netflix I have returned to reading loads of books a week. Gone Girl, my last one was fantastic.

    1. I did just enough homework but I read everything in sight, including cereal boxes and scraps of newspaper. I have to get back to my childhood, I suppose. I think you could have loads of fun with this dictionary clutch.

    1. Hi ABC! It's a good one. And I will post photos of the faux fur if it ever gets cold enough around here for it, we're still in the 90s. I'll carry the clutch soon and take pictures of that too. :)
