The First Day of Summer

Not really. But seasons happen a little later in SoCal (and why I'm always behind,
that's my excuse). Summer came roaring in on Thursday and this is what I wore.
The stripe popover is of a 100% cotton gauzy fabric. It looked cool and easy
and I thought of it as soon as I realized the day was going to be a scorcher.
I'd found a stash of my summer pants so the shirt became a topper for the white denim cropped matchsticks from last year or the year before.
Now why is it I become incredibly messy when I wear white?
Not only did I discover some faint stains on one leg (I could have sworn they were clean ... unless I spilled my morning tea), I spilled coffee on the other leg. And at the end
of the day, found some bright yellow blobs on the back (did I sit on some mustard?
but I was only in my office chair and my car that day ...).
I once wore a white tee with a white jacket and carried a cream colored bag.
It must have been too much white karma because I splattered
marina sauce all over my tee and jacket and bag.

Outside and inside.

Luckily, I didn't get the sauce on the lining of the bag.
So I was able to wipe the leather clean, though I was still finding
sauce months later in little nooks and crannies.

Do you think we are actually clumsier when we wear white?
Or is it because every mistake shows up?
Know any tips or tricks for getting out stains you can pass on?

  1. I am pretty sure I am klutzy on an ongoing basis, but I can tell you I look for amazing deals on white, as it makes me heartsick because I have ruined many a white thing over the years....

What a great looking outfit. I am contemplating that popover, as AJC has worn it with her porcelain paisley. I did not realize it was so gauzy - that must be really cool!

    1. I do the same and pick up white shirts on sale all the time. Thanks! The top is reminiscent of the gauzy shirt from the 70s. ;)

  2. Such a cute outfit, and the shoes are absolutely divine! I don't own them, but have always wanted to. Do they fit TTS? Are they at all comfortable?

I wear white a lot, and don't really have too many problems. If staining does happen, at least there is always the option of bleach. :)

    1. These, the Penelope mary janes, seem to be the shoes I wear most often. I love them. I have small but wide feet so I never know how to answer TTS. I tend to size up a half to get some width and love the mary jane style with the strap so I don't step out of the shoes. They are as comfortable as heeled shoes with manmade lining and sole can be, for a qualified yes.

Bleach has restored many a pure white item for me. ;)

  3. I wear white a lot too, I'm usually ok but when I eat at home and wear a hoodie on top!
So, when would you say it's hottest in SoCal? That's interesting that you say seasons happen a little later there.

    1. White is beautiful on you!

Answering for coastal and slightly inland SoCal (it might be different for the mountain and inland desert areas): the hottest is usually mid-August to mid-September with a good bit of hot weather a month before and after. So about the time you are thinking sweaters and fall fashion, we're still in heat.

  4. I'm a complete slob whatever the pants but I know what you mean, as soon as I put those white pants on, there is a blog. Love those Mary Janes? you're wearing with it.

    1. And even if I don't do something to myself, when I wear white is when somebody with a dirty car will park too close to the driver side of my car and force me to dust off theirs.

These mary janes (Penelope mary jane from J.Crew a few years back) are ones for which I wish I had a back-up, they are well worn.

  5. I wear white often and don't have any trouble. I'm always confused when others say they won't buy it. In summer I think it's fresh and crisp and cool looking. Speaking of which, you look great. The white jeans and the blue/white striped top, that's summer baby :)

    1. Well, thank you! A white shirt is a must for anytime and white jeans, absolutely for summer. And you'd know what's summer and how to look fresh and cool!

  7. I only own one pair of white pants and they have been bleached to DEATH...definitely feel your pain. Marina sauce is the worst:)!!!

  9. Love that top too and wore it a few times already. Two of the SAs in my store also have it. It hung in the sale section forever until customers saw them on the SAs, after which they sold well. Go figure.

    1. It was hearing how much you liked yours that got me to get this top! Funny how seeing something worn by others can make us take another look, especially when it's on sale. ;)

  10. I love your outfit, so fresh. I wear white sparingly and usually on top only because I use self-tanner in the summer and it does rub off on the bottoms more easily, on tees and tops it seems I can get away without the tell-tale marks. I used to tan in the sun but it took forever with my fair skin so now I skip the damaging rays but it means that I do have to watch what I wear sometimes.
