Peplum Problems and Revealing Details

I think Gigi is right, the print on the printed eyelet top looks like cabbages but I like the top enough to think of them as cabbage roses.
Dare I say I love the top?
I'm thinking the details are reminiscent of JC's glory days.
Here's a close-up of the fabric. I put bright yellow behind it so you can see the parts that are cut out, one could try interesting things
layering it over colors. Starting as 100% white cotton,
the top is printed, it's textured and pierced, and finished with
scalloped neckline and sleeve edges. The only bothersome thing to note was some discomfort with the material, some call it itchy and I say it's irritating. Not nearly as bad as the lustre lace mockneck tee (that one I could not take off fast enough) but still a little bit abrasive.
I wore it with a buff colored cami and the collection classic schoolboy blazer in tipped linen; remember thinking the top breezy and great for a hot sticky day when you'd really appreciate some air flow.
Why is it whenever I accessorize it never looks right but whenever I don't, think I should've worn a necklace or something?
For the sake of SHOPNOW on knits and tees, thought I'd show you the ponte peplum top in stripe, see the ivory and navy ponte peplum tops in this post. I have a lot more to say about this but I must get some sleep now; will be back tomorrow to finish up. But one thing for certain is trouble with a good cover for the peplum top. Any suggestions?

    1. Thanks very much, rynetta! I'll have to try that top with pink. I know you have and love that tipped jacket, think it was you who got me to take a closer look at it, when you showed the striped trim. ;)

    1. Think I've only seen people wear peplum tops without another layer on top, and now I know why. I thought it was a little weird with the cropped jacket but I did get a compliment on that combo. Yep ... roses, roses, roses.

  3. You got them up. :) I agree about the cabbage roses & it being old school J Crew. I think the stitching around the eyelets is strong, making it feel itchy. I could also feel the texture against my skin. My stomach *is* a peplum, so none look good on me. lol No tips for you.

    Good reviews!

    1. Thanks, gigi! Yes, I did. :) and it is the strong texture that can irritate the skin but with this one, I didn't seem to notice after a while so I think it's a keeper. The lustre lace was a definite no, the other definite is how tricky peplum tops are to wear.

  6. Love the printed eyelet top on you. It looks great with the blazer or without. I can't wear a peplum so I have no idea how to layer. Seems like it hits a bit on the high side, which is amazing considering how petite you are.

    1. I do love that eyelet top, it's a gem even with the little bit of irritation. You're spot on with the peplum top, it is a little high waisted on me so how would it be for taller ladies?

  7. The striped peplum top looks excellent on you! I have the ivory one and am now considering the striped one. I wear the ivory top with a cropped knit sweater jacket (J. Crew of yore, ca 2008).

    1. Hi, Louise, and thanks! I don't know if it's the one I got or the way all the striped ones are but I thought it fitting looser than the solid colored peplum tops. A cropped knit sweater ... sounds cute!

  8. What pants are you wearing with the striped peplum top? Your legs look spectacular!

    1. Well thanks, Lisa! Those are the minnie in bi-stretch wool, my all-time favorite skinny pants if I'm going a little more dressed up than skinny jeans or chinos, wearing regular length here. I keep looking for them to come out in navy and I'm still looking ...

  9. I just love how you wear things - or is it that you have a fabulous figure? So streamlined Both that top and the peplum are great with those trousers, the peplum gives it a fun and flouncy edge. I've read on other blogs that peplums make hips look bigger but I don't think so at all.

    1. Thanks so much, Jody. But one of these days I may do a bloopers post to show all my fashion don'ts and disasters. ;)

The peplum is fun but I'm thinking it's a too young look for me, especially in stripes ...
