It Ain't Pretty IRL

How now, brown cow?
I have no idea why that came to mind.
I no longer had to think about it, my OOTD was thus determined.
So now you know why the name of the post.
Oh sure. If I was another six or ten inches taller.
And had somebody pin everything to shape and slender.
But alas, no. Such is how it is in real life.

Let's start at the top: that's the perfect shirt in chambray polka dot.
The lounge pants trousers are the café capri in silky dot.
The substitute Valentina mirror metallic pumps are Daniele Ancarani
I got from shoescribe before they took down the sale section.
I think they're pretty. With leather uppers, leather lining, leather sole
and a dainty 2.25 inch heel, they are very, very comfortable.
And they were substantially less money than the metallic Valentina.

Back to the trousers ... Gigi said I had to get them.
And she was right, they are like wearing fancy jammies.
I'm surprised it's a 66% silk, 34% wool blend; they just feel like silk charmeuse on your legs. They're unlined so I don't know how they'd be in heat and
high humidity (thank goodness that is rarely a problem in my neck of the woods).
They wouldn't be good with static cling either.

No matter. That's not usually a problem either where I am.
Being comfy is a big plus.
The lounging pajamas brought me to think of ...
The ballet flats of yore.
Not only were they darned cute.
They were carefully constructed for cushy comfort.
Even the quality and softness of the leather lining made me sigh.

  1. Fancy Jammies! Well I always wanted some! Actually they are quite pretty though the polka dots look bigger IRL. Anyway I think everything looks great on you.
I was planning to wear my jammy pants around the house with a big cashmere sweater and my Chie Mihara brown polka dot shoes. Hostess outfit?
Thanks so much for reviewing them I really appreciate it. And for the link-love as well.

    1. Oh yes, loving your idea, the jammy pants with a big cashmere sweater. So cozy. Sipping champagne by the fireplace ...

You're right, Dani, the dots do look bigger IRL. But I think it's because she is really tall and I am not. I just counted the number of dot rows in the waistband and they are consistent so the dots must be the same size.

Thanks so much for your nice comments.

    2. And Dani, I actually wore these trousers with my Chie Mihara shoes before I saw your comment. Like minds. ;)

I'll post the pic for another goofy post.

  2. Thanks Tiffany Rose. I will leave these ones to you and Dani. I love them on you and think they look great and seriously covet those shoes - I prefer them to the valentinas, actually!

For me the problem would be the static cling. Saved another $ for the jcrew bucket!!!

    1. I liked them more and more as I wear them. The trousers also resist wrinkling better than I expected.

They would likely cling like a silk blouse when the air is full of static electricity. Just saying. ;)

    1. Thanks so much, MB!! The outfit is a little dorky on me but I'm OK with that. ;)

  5. I think they look good on you! Maybe you could get them hemmed to take care of the extra length. They were a total no-go on me as they seemed to fit larger than other Cafe Capris of the same size (maybe it's the thin fabric?), so I was sized out. I do wish they were lined, though.

    1. Thanks, life as a cat! I thought they fit big as well and yes, I think you're right about the thin fabric feeling roomy. Compared to the navy tweed, these are so much looser, probably because the tweed is thick and has a lining. They would probably look better shortened and tapered, but I know I'll never get around to doing that. As for the lining, I am OK without them, the lining would likely be acetate at best and most probably polyester and I'd rather feel silk.

  6. I can just see clips going down the back of the model's legs to get them that tapered.

I'm so glad you love them :)

    1. Hi Gigi! I do and more as the day went on. I'm tempted to send this post to MD. Seems there should be something about truth in advertising that would apply. When food is advertised, all the pieces have to be exactly the same as you really get, they even weigh the meat patties and count number of pickles for a hamburger, except of course they're placed carefully for the camera. I think the models can be posed in nice angles for the clothes to look better but the clothes shouldn't be pinned/clipped for the photo shoot.

  7. I prefer the pants with the brown flats. Are you planning to hem them to Capri length? I'm short so I would leave the length. Capris make me look even shorter :(

    1. I liked the pants with the flats too. And like you, I don't think proper capri length is flattering on me. Plus, I'm too lazy to take them to my tailor. ;)

  8. You always look fantastic in trousers. Like well styled life I love them with the flatties. (BTW, wonder why they measure the hem with a 6ft model in mind? And yes they must be clipped at the back too...) Very Sophia Coppola in her viewing room chic!

    1. Oh I'm so flattered, thank you.

I too liked the trousers best with the flats, it was an end of day inspiration and how I'll wear them next. I think they must clip, when I look at their pictures, the detail not making sense is how their feet fit through the narrow leg openings that fit close around the skinniest of ankles (and we're not talking about stretchy pants). Of course they do the clipping after the pants are already on.

  9. I love this pants, and got me one too! It's so comfy and long for my 5' tall, but I like the length :o)
    It looks great on you!
