Looks We Love Not So Much

This is such a cute look, I thought the tie top in navy tweed
a fun and different way to be part of a suit.
So I eagerly hunted down my size of the top via WWFIFY and got the café capri in navy tweed when it went on sale with an extra % off.
Ummm ... maybe not.
Gigi reviewed the top, and while I didn't mind
the ribbon not being silk, I agree I didn't get the feeling.
I like the tinsel factor, I like the colors of the tweed,
see close up here:
But I didn't get how it's a "classic" (I should know better than to argue with
the copywriter from space, I know). And there's something oxymoronic about
a top described as "tailored" and also having a "loose fit."
I kept thinking, "glamorous potato sack."

As for the café capri, the jury's still out.
For a "lightweight tweed," they feel heavy and they look heavy.
I'm going to "pair it with its matching jacket" later this week
to see if that "ladylike spin" is its final spin with me.

  1. If you can't wear this then no one can, it's all so bulky looking, it's for those days when women want to add 20 lbs to their frame - yes - the 12th of never.

    1. Tabitha, it might work better for someone much taller, which for me would be the 12th of never!

    2. Oh and I think they must have pinned the top on the model shot. The weird pose I have is my vain effort trying to give the top some shape.

  2. Great title. Yeah, boo on the navy tweed top. I wanna see you w/the jacket & pants. I bet *you* can do it.

    1. Thanks, Gigi. I almost called this bloopers ;) I thought the same as you, the top looked lacking by itself and why I put the shirt under. But!

  3. Iam with Tabita and Gigi - if you can't make this top look good, no one can! Holy cow! However, I must say I really the look of the material close up versus on my computer screen on the JC site!

    1. Hi WMM, thanks for your nice comment! Maybe if I wasn't such a shortie this would look better. The material is pretty, the blue has a slight violet to it that's not showing as well on my monitor.

  4. Perfect analogy, glamorous potato sack about sums up this outfit. "A" for effort but the Crew blew it on this one.

    1. I think it's really difficult to make a pullover of a fabric with no stretch and without buttons or zipper and have it not look baggy. The loosely woven tweed reminds me a little of a burlap sack, though much prettier. ;)

  5. Funny, I bought the other two navy tweed items (jacket and mini) and I think it is a younger-looking suit even if more traditional in principle. I think it's the pants that ruin it, not the top. I will post pics later.

    1. Ema, you can rock the mini but I cannot wear them. I will skip over to check out your pics.

  6. I purchased the pants first and like you felt that they wore a little heavy, but in the dressing room but so many outfit choices together that I had to get them. A few days later I purchased the jacket and love them togther because it's a edgy suit. I think you can "rock" it.

  7. I bought the jacket and tried on the pants, but like you, I also felt that they were heavy looking on. Now that they are on a super sale, I'm reconsidering trying them on (with heels this time, as I think part of my problem was trying them on with flats). Looking forward to seeing the jacket and pants together on you!

    1. injanuity, the super sale makes everything look better, doesn't it ;) I think heels help so much to lengthen the look, especially heavy looking trousers, so definitely try the heels.

  8. The pants are a fail, the top has possibilities but it looks stuffed over a buttoned-up shirt. I might try it over a navy pencil skirt. I'm over the JC Garanimals look, where we're supposed to believe that everything they make goes with everything else they make. BTW there's another CFS post coming soon!

    1. Just like Gigi, I thought the top looked like it needed something so I tried it over the shirt. AJC belted it and wore it with a skirt and it looked great so I'm wavering ...

Coming over to check your post. ;)
