Sensuous Sumptuous Silk

The CFS overuses sumptuous for her online descriptions.
But believe me, this blouse is of sumptuous silk.
True to its name, the heavyweight silk bow top is heavy (for silk),
luscious, drapey, flowy, lovely 100% silk.

It feels really good on, like the caress of gentle Hawaiian trade winds.
Which is why I didn't (and it would be a shame to) wear a cami under, though you can see it's not opaque enough to not show through the color of the pants.

However, the CFS is clearly demonstrating detachment
from the merchandise for saying:
  1. Tailored fit
  2. Long sleeves
  3. Tie closure
A picture tells a few words:
(I'm 5'2" ish and these don't qualify as long sleeves in my book.)
In case you're wondering, the bow is tacked on, it's only decorative and doesn't serve as a closure. I also question whether it's considered lush since I'd have tied it with much larger loops but OK, I'll give you that one, CFS.

I used to work for several advertising agencies where proofreading,
including checking for accuracy of the copy, was taken seriously.
I'd have been fired a long time ago for describing notch lapels as a standing collar or skirt lengths so consistently wrong and  ...
you all have your own good and bad examples of CFS errors.

But she's a pun robot and I guess that's all they care.

Back to the blouse ... I'd wear it, sans the lush bow, as pajamas if I could.
And if I was a rich girl, I'd sleep in sheets made of the same fabric.

The same blouse in frosted plum is on its way.

  1. Oh it's so pretty, I have too much hair for neck detail otherwise I'd be foaming at the mouth for this.

    1. Tabitha, this blouse is made for sipping a quiet champagne or tea with your mum. I think you'd enjoy it, the bow can be removed with a little careful snipping.

    1. Thank you, ina! I should have said but those are factory printed skimmer pants. I was pleasantly surprised by how well I liked them.

    2. I thought those were the anchors aweigh pants. I tried those dotted skimmers at the J'Crewlet. Really, really cute! :)

  3. I've found myself a sucker for sumptuous silk, too, ever since jumping on the Blythe bandwagon introduced me to searching for silk rather than synthetic pieces. I scored a Stellina Sequined Shell from 2010 on Ebay recently, and while the style may not be for everyone, the silk is thicker and more suede-like than anything I've seen from J. Crew in recent months. The top wasn't Collection, either. Oh, days of yore! If only they'd bring back that quality en masse!

    1. Oh my mother had me trained to love silk since I was a little girl. That is a beautiful shell! Lucky you.

Good point, this top is not Collection but I think it should have been ... the silk is thick and suede-like, that's a good description and a good description for this blouse. The days of yore pops in every so often, maybe once in a blue moon. ;)

  4. That top is lovely on you. It looks very luxe in the photos, although I would also have tied the bow with a bit bigger loops but the longer ends probably add some movement. I can wear scarves but I have trouble with blouses that have neck embellishment, even when my hair is up, which is about half the time. I have one blouse with rosettes at the top of the placket and I have to be in just the right mood to wear it. Too girly for my tomboyish attitude I guess.

    1. Thanks, xoxo. It feels very luxe and I think you'd like it, with your eye for quality pieces. I'd prefer bigger loops AND longer ends, THAT would be a lush bow. I do like the movement of it but I'm starting to think about removing the bow ... the line "one of our favorite motifs of the season" had the opposite effect on me, as I'm fairly certain as unintended by CFS.

  5. So pretty! I love a good silk, but dislike final sale too much to try it. I hope the new one makes you just as happy as this does.

  6. That's perfect w/the anchors aweigh pants! What a great description you've shared. Can't wait to receive mine today or tomorrow. Too bad about the bow. I do wish it weren't simply tacked on. Lol @ pun robot.

    1. Gigi, the anchors aweigh pants would be perfect, that's the only other item I've given sumptuous status (at least thus far). Oh it would be like wearing luxe silk PJs all day!

But! These are the factory printed skimmer pant.

I know, I've never been wild about "fake" bows.

I was trying to give her some credit and a possible reason for continued employment. Maybe I'm too harsh.

Let me know how you like your heavyweight silk bow top!!

  7. The blouse looks lovely on you and yes, sumptuous :) I know it defies a purpose but could you remove the now? I like the heavier silk but I'd rather provide my own embellishments. Thanks for the review, love the way you styled it.

    1. Hi ajc, thanks so much! I think the bow can be removed, I checked and it looks like it's tacked on by a couple stitches in six places. However, since the thread is the same color as the blouse, you'd have to be very careful so you don't snip the fabric, some of the stitches are only from the front of the top. I'm convinced it can be done and I'm awfully tempted to remove the bow too.

  8. I love thick silk. Is it from the same silk that shapeless tee was made this summer? I loved that silk, but the top just didn't work for me.

Plum should be just as beautiful, I can imagine.

    1. Hi Rose! Do you mean the Collection silk crepe tee #78589? I have that too I can't resist good silk. The tee is of a denser weave so it's heavier, smoother and more opaque. The silk bow top is more crepey and spongier, it's floatier, if that makes any sense. The bow top has quite a bit of natural stretch and a velvety feel.

I'm looking forward to the plum. ;)

  10. I love silk blouses. This one looks adorable on you and I can't wait to see the plum color! I had a phase where all I bought was silk shirts, it was a little nutso. Then I realized perspiring in them is a whole other ball of wax and I should stick to cottons, sorry if that was tmi. I really love your pants! They are so cute:) xo

    1. The plum is pretty. I went through the same phase. LOL, I understand, but know that silk washes better than people think, I've been writing a post in my mind about how silk washes. The pants are one of the bestest things I've purchased from the factory store. ;)

    1. This blouse is definitely in the good silk category and why I jumped on both colors when they went to sale and with the 30% off.

  12. Love it with the dotty pants! They need to have you on retainer - sleeves are important as is the loop in the bow. It falls so well on you!

    1. With the exception of wanting to tie the bow with bigger loops and jauntier higher up on the shoulder, I really love this top. You may like it, it might be a dressier version of that "Elle Bod" blouse?

  13. I am way behind - cannot figure out how I missed this post!! I love this outfit on you! I have thought on and off about buying this blouse, but the scoopneck foulard and the feather paisley that I have shied away from this style out of fear!

    1. Hi WMM! I am much more behind than you, I haven't kept up with your posts. Thank you ... but I wonder if this blouse would work differently than the others you tried. I did not try the scoopneck foulard but remembered not liking the feather paisley.
