Haha! I actually love the last sweater on the left, but some of the items above. Hmmm. The only things I'm remotely interested in from J Crew this season are their basic tees. I like the look of the new A line skirt in wool, but seeing as Sydney will be sweltering until May next year, there is No Need. Don't laugh, but I also love the Collection Ratti tile print coat which is about 7 billion $
Hi ruth! Well I've been wrong about things enough times in the past, I've thought I hated some things that turned out to be loves later on. But I agree I haven't been as needy, or at least that's what I think, whether it's true in practice or not. At least you can catch all the opposite season things on super sale.
I can't figure out whether I love or hate that coat but it is a zillion dollars. I can see you looking fab in it if it isn't too big/long on you. :)
Nothing for me (okay I would take the jean jacket but I don't need one!) - besides the kikis, and the odd basic tee or basic sweater, I am out of J Crew this fall
I like the jean jacket, it's the recycled denim that got to me on that one. I am not as disciplined as you are but I am resisting more than usual, even rejecting the kikis.
A jean jacket is a basic piece so I would say good for that one. I have two of the denim variety and one made of terry and tencel from Lacoste, which I wear the most of all 3. Considering one of the others for donation now.
Even if I wasn't sized out of J.Crew this season I would not be buying. They went off in another direction with Gayle at the helm and I don't like it at all, but I'm not one for prints, patterns or anything the least bit crazy. And I am seeing a whole lot of crazy.
Whatever you choose I'm sure you will style it with panache, as you always do.
Hmmm, I wonder if Cosby would be insulted by these ...
The thing about that yellow paisley top, it happens to be in the colors that will make my coloring hideous. But could be useful if I needed to be out sick. ;)
The top two sweaters and two button-downs are tolerable. I actually like the gray/white sweater and and bought a much, much cheaper version from Uniqlo last week. Everything else is absolutely atrocious. I'm kind of throwing up in my mouth a little over the bottom four pieces.
This partly explains why I actually have not purchased any new fall collection pieces from JC as of yet. The stuff I like is too high priced and everything else is either "same old stuff" or almost WTF-worthy. I kind of like that sweater on the bottom left, but I'm pretty sure it's overpriced and it's a little Bill Cosby a la Cosby Show-ish.
Everybody thinks of Bill as the king of bad sweaters but maybe the JC designers are giving him a run for that honor ;) This one you're thinking of, the bottom left, will only set you back about $500. Like you said, there's a lot of I already have something very close or you've got to be kidding!
This is funny! The denim jacket works (of course), and the first two sweaters and shorts are wearable too. Otherwise some misses from J.Crew this fall. I'm willing to give the merino knotted sweater in the red/parley colorway a try, stay tuned. ;)
Hi ABC! That's exactly my assessment on these items. I went back and forth on the merino knotted scarf sweater in the parsley combo and finally ordered it when it was down to a few. I saw your polyvore sets with it and that's what got me interested. Let me know how you like it.
I am a long time JCrew customer and have a ton of "retro" and even "vintage" items still in rotation in my closet. None of these pieces would last very long when I compare them to my older favorites ( which still look current!)
Hi MJ! I do too and try to tell myself I have something even better and there's No Need, as ruth said above. I don't often succeed but it's getting a lot easier of late. Thanks for the reminder. :)

Did Jenna try a quilting class then quit half way? It seems the ruler isn't dead after all...
ReplyDeleteMy friend who quilts could be insulted. ;)

I'm with you, xoxo, not liking the direction that's too crazy even for me ;)
DeleteGosh, panache, really? Thanks xoxo, I feel I'm almost always a little off.
I laughed. :) I don't think I could quite pull off the sweaters at the bottom.
ReplyDeleteThere are quite a few things on this post I could not pull off, Merry Wife!
DeleteHeh, I think all of the various "tile" sweaters just look like hideous cosby sweaters.
ReplyDeleteI can see you totally rocking that yellow paisley top... I really like it too. Maybe on SUPER clearance.
Hmmm, I wonder if Cosby would be insulted by these ...

ReplyDeleteWe are of the same mind here, egyptomaniac. Maybe others will rock them and I'll change my mind but I am not picturing myself in most of these items.
