Shocking Pink on a Grey Day

It hailed multiple times over the weekend. Hailed. And not just a quick sprinkle. In SoCal in late March. Can you believe it?

Now we're not talking about golf ball size hail but it was pretty darned wet and cold. And still cold today.

So why am I not taking the opportunity to wear one of my beloved coats?

It's because I was so proud of myself for coming up with this pairing: the tweed and khaki motorcycle jacket with the glow-in-the-dark, in-your-face neon azalea bright pink double-serge wool pencil skirt.

Though I knew the extra thick gauge cambridge turtleneck sweater wouldn't tuck smoothly under, I did one of those "I don't care, I'm gonna wear it anyway" things in my head.

All day long, I'd shock myself everytime I caught my reflection in the many panes of glass around the office. Wow, it's bright.

Things like this become a brain game for me to solve. I'll likely wear the skirt again soon to come up with a different solution.

Do you have this skirt and have you figured out how to wear it?

  1. I tone it down with a vibrant flame Tippi. :)

  2. This outfit is brilliant, TR!! I think this is my favorite on you yet. I adore that jacket! It looks like it was made just for you. It looks awesome with that skirt. Love it in neon azalea. I don't have the skirt, but I think navy would look great with it, too. :)

    1. Well thanks so much, Kittywitty! I remember wavering on the jacket but very happy once I decided to get it. It's really versatile. I will try the skirt with navy. :)

  3. This outfit is really cute!!! It works really well! I just wear gray with mine to "tone it down" but frankly... there is no real way to hide the fact that you're wearing a hot pink skirt!

    1. Thank you! There is no way to hide, is there? I noticed men stepping aside to let me pass lol. I will try grey as well.

  4. This is a gorgeous outfit, the jacket and sweater work perfectly. I wear the skirt with gray mostly and occasionally with steel blue. It's definitely bright but that's the theme this season so it fits right in.

    1. Thank you, xoxo. Greys and blues seem to be the way to go. I think honey mustard can work as well. I knew going in it was going to be an interesting pink. ;)

  5. Tiffany Rose - this is beautiful! And I love the jacket with the neon pencil...I have those! Of course, here in VA it has been in the 80's, but cool mornings and evenings, so I'd just switch out the turtleneck with a cotton top in that same neutral shade! Thanks so much, why didn't I think to pair these??? Love it on you!

    1. Hey Suzy, thanks!!! Your ideas have inspired a lot of my outfits so I'm certain it was a matter of time before you would think of this. I'm heading out your way next week to DC, think it will be cooler then and looking forward to the cherry blossoms!

    1. Thank you!!! You could try to tone down or go with it, as One is Never Enough has suggested. I'll have to see which mood I'm in next time I wear the skirt. :)

  7. I think you styled this skirt beautifully. I'm anticipating receiving mine soon and I have no idea what to wear with it! It seems like neutrals are the way to go. I like how you put an edge to it with the boots and jacket.

    1. Thanks so much, Apples and Pencil Skirts and of course you have to have this! I think it can be edgy and it can be styled to be very pretty as well. Have fun trying different ideas!

  8. BEAUTIFUL! You're so brave...the brightest pencil skirt I have is the vibrant flame. Don't think I'm woman enough to try hot pink! This outfit is gorgeous. You were really able to pull out those pink tones in the jacket with this pairing!

Our weather has been weird too...I'm not complaining though. At least it's not snowing :)

    1. Hi AppGal, thanks!! The tone in the jacket is actually more coral but I thought they worked well together.

Brave or a little outrageous or obnoxious? Good thing I've developed a reputation for loud clothing over the years. ;)

I'd bet you can pull off hot pink!
